  • Community service may help you get into college. They look for more than good grades and test scores.
  • You're passionate about the cause. Say YES and get involved in something you really care about.

Things to think about before you volunteer:

  • What cause(s) are you passionate about?
    • Examples: literacy, animals, global warming, elderly, recycling, cancer pervention.
  • Do you want to volunteer at a one-time event or find something you can do regularly?
  • Do you want to help with a YES project?

  • How many hours can you volunteer?
    • Be realistic, don't over-commit.
  • When are you available?
    • During the school year, fall, spring, or summer breaks, teacher in-service days.
  • Do you have a way to get there?
    • Not all of us have our license yet!
    • Ask mom, dad, other family members, or a friend to drive you.
  • Do you want to volunteer by yourself or with friends and family?
    • Invite others to join you. The more the merrier!

Check out the YES Projects page. If you don't see a project that you'd like to help with, contact us and tell us what you'd like to do.We'll help connect you to an organization in your community where you can volunteer. You can also contact non-profit organizations in your area like the United Way, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Chances for Youth, Humane Society and others to find out if they need volunteers. Don't be affraid to suggest things you can do to help them out.
