Our History Youth Embracing Service, Inc. (YES) is a non-profit youth service organization created during the summer of 2007 by two youth in Terre Haute, Indiana. Grant and Amanda Mansard (then: age 14 and 13) created the organization because they believe young people can make a difference. YES is run with 100% volunteer effort. When they decided to get involved in volunteering, they looked at several volunteer websites and could only find a few volunteer opportunities for kids their age in Terre Haute. They noticed that there were no opportunities for elementary age kids. They called local organizations and learned that there are volunteer opportunities out there for middle and high school students. But, there were not many opportunities for elementary age kids. So, they decided to share information about volunteer opportunities with other students and encourage them to start volunteering. Then, Grant and Amanda decided they also wanted to start community service projects and get other students involved in those projects. They wanted the projects to provide an opportunity for younger kids to make a difference also. This is how YES started!
The organization's purpose is to inspire youth of all ages to make a difference. YES creates volunteer opportunities for youth by initiating community service projects and inviting youth to participate in those projects. We did our first service project in November of 2007. We also connect youth with community organizations that have volunteer opportunities and help youth develop their own service project ideas. YouthEmbracingService.org is a link that shares information about YES, our projects, general information about volunteering, starting and funding service projects, and other stuff. Volunteer opportunities for elementary and middle school students are more difficult to find, so we are committed to initiating projects that allow all ages to participate.
Regardless of your age, if you want to get involved in your community or the world and make a difference, contact us and we'll help you get started. We hope to hear from you soon!
We started YES by doing service projects in our home town, but we are now working to involve youth nationally. Our goal is to establish a network of young philanthropists who collectively make an even greater difference!
Our Mission The mission of YES is to inspire youth everywhere to think about how they can make a difference, get them excited about helping others, and help them get started. Â
We may be young, but we can accomplish great things!
Say YES to service!
